FAQS

Answers to common questions

  • How do I communicate with the studio?

Text message is our preferred method of contact. However, we can also be reached via phone call or email. 682-253-6363 - Info@kellermusiclessons.com

  • How do I communicate with my teacher?

If you have questions about lessons or homework you can reach out to your teacher through the comments section of Opus1. Teachers don’t do any scheduling or admin. So, if you have a question about anything other than the lessons themselves, please reach out to the office.

  • What is Opus1 and how do I use it?

Opus 1 is our client, teacher and student platform. On your parent profile you can see your students schedule, invoices, communicate with the teacher, update payment and contact info and much more. When you enroll you’ll receive a welcome email and will be guided through the steps to set up your account. When you need to login in the future you just go to our website dacapomusicdfw.com/login and click the Opus1 login button. On that page there’s also a link to our YouTube Channel. On our channel there are several short tutorial videos about how to use the many functions of Opus1.

  • Where do I find YouTube tutorials?

Youtube tutorials can be found under the resources tab or by clicking here.

  • How long does it take to learn an instrument?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice a very basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving, and they find the lessons enjoyable.

  • I do not know anything about music. How can I help my child practice?

Even if you don’t have a musical background, you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring your child’s practice time, he or she will make progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound.

We have also included a Practical Tips sheet that gives you and your student a whole list of things to help their practice.

  • Do I need an instrument at home?

For private lessons, YES. We do require students to have their own instrument at home within a month of beginning private lessons. We have enclosed a sheet that has recommendations of where to buy or rent instruments.

For Group classes, it depends on the class. Most of our group classes are designed to not have a practice requirement.

Tap here for local recommendations on where to buy/rent an instrument.

  • What happens if I (my child) get sick or there’s an emergency and can’t make a lesson?

Our system requires 18 hour's notice to cancel a lesson and receive a Make-Up credit. This can be done through the online platform found on our website.  If you need to cancel a lesson “same day” there is no need to contact us.  If your child is feeling ill, please message your teacher through Opus1 to request an online lesson for that day.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING SICK CHILDREN TO THE STUDIO!

If they're not feeling up to a lesson, no make-up lessons will be offered but please reach out to your teacher and ask for advice about what they should practice that week to keep progressing.

  • What happens if the teacher has to miss or there’s a bad weather closure?

If your teacher is absent, our goal is for you to still have your lesson as scheduled. We have amazing substitutes (most of our subs are our current teachers) lined up to step in if your teacher has to be gone for any reason. If for some reason we can’t arrange a sub then you’ll be issued a Make-up Credit that you can book, through Opus1, at your convenience.

  • What about holidays?

Our calendar is available in the studio lobby and on our website. All holiday closures are marked on there. Most months you will receive 4 lessons, sometimes 3 (Ex: When we’re closed for Spring Break) and sometimes 5. We factor all this and the holiday closures into the calendar and everyone, no matter what day you have a lesson, will get the same number of lessons across the year.

  • What is your bad weather policy?

If you ever feel unsafe driving to your/your student's lesson you are always welcome to attend the lesson online.  We will loosely follow Keller ISD's closure decisions.  If school is closed for "Bad Weather", w e will make a decision for evening lessons by noon that day.  If we decide to close, a closure notification will be sent to you from Opus1.  If you don't receive a notification, please assume we're still open.
